It’s perfect for baby shower decorations, new baby announcements and celebrations, scrapbook pages, greetings cards, keepsake frames and more.

I see trucks in craft projects quite often and I love the retro feel to them. Over the past couple of years I’ve made quite a few different truck free cutting files for different occasions.

The truck theme of this tutorial is a new baby design. It has a series of balloons coming out of the trunk which say “New Baby” and there is a cute little teddy bear and an oversized baby bottle too.

You can change the colours to match a particular theme, or leave them as-is for a gender neutral project in shades of pastel blue, pink, yellow and orange.

Here’s how to make your very own new baby truck using a Cricut machine!

Step 1) Download the free file & unzip the downloaded folder

Before you upload the SVG to Design Space, you need to unzip the download folder that it comes in.

Step 2) Upload the SVG file into Design Space

Open up Cricut Design Space and upload the file called svg-truck-baby-craftwithsarah.svg

Make sure you upload the file which starts svg- in the filename!!

This is how it should look after you have uploaded the file:

After uploading, the truck design will show in your “Recently Uploaded Images”. Click on it and then press “Add to Canvas” to put it onto your Project.

Click the truck on your canvas and use the width/height boxes near the top of the screen to make it the size that you want to cut it.

I made mine 9 inches wide to fit inside a A4 photo frame.

I don’t recommend going smaller than about 6 inches wide as some of the pieces are quite delicate, such as the strings of the balloons. If you make the design much smaller than that, it may be difficult to cut.

Step 3) Re-colour the design if needed

This step is optional, but if you want to cut the truck in different colours then I recommend updating how it looks in Design Space before you cut it, to check you’re happy with the new colour scheme.

Here’s how you could change it to a more traditional red truck.

First, we’ll change the balloons. Look down the layers panel and click one of the balloon layers, then change the colour using the colour selection box along the top of your screen.

Repeat this for all balloons. I changed them to green, red, orange and yellow.

Next, change the bunting pieces to match the new balloon colours.

Change the hubcaps on the wheels to match the pale grey of the balloon strings.

Easily change all the pale blue layers of the truck by clicking “Color Sync” at the top of the layers panel, then dragging the light blue section onto the red section from the balloons.

Change one of the dark blue layers to a darker red, then use Color Sync again to move the rest of the dark blue pieces onto the dark red colour.

The final thing to change is the back of the truck. I also changed the top of the baby bottle as I wasn’t too keen on having that in dark red.

Here is a comparison to show the new coloured truck against the original SVG colours.

For the rest of this tutorial, I will revert back to the original colours.

Step 4) Cut the design

When you’re happy how the truck SVG is looking in Design Space, click “Make” and follow the instructions on-screen to cut out all the layers.

Change the paper size with the dropdowns on the left of the screen. You need to change it for every colour.

You can drag-and-drop the pieces on the screen to move them about to take up less space on your cardstock.

Step 5) Stick the layered truck together

Use 3D foam pads and glue to stick the layers together.

My favourite glue to use on papercraft projects is Collall All Purpose Glue.

It’s SO good because it doesn’t “warp” or bend the cardstock like some glues do. You can use as much of it as you want and the card stays perfect – and it dries perfectly clear too!

To make it even easier to apply glue to layered card projects, I highly recommend getting some of these needle tip applicator bottles to put the glue into.

The nozzles are REALLY tiny which makes them perfect for putting glue in the pieces of cardstock that make up this truck.

You may need to cut your foam squares smaller to add the bunting triangles, as they are very little!

When adding the foam pads to larger pieces, make sure you add some in the middle of the pieces of card so it gives some stability to the middles. If you don’t add any foam pads in the middles then it can “sag” under the weight of the other layers which doesn’t look as good.

Once you have finished sticking all the pieces together, your truck is ready to be framed, added to a greetings card or scrapbook page – or, however else you are planning on displaying it!
